Martín Cortés de Albacar publishes the first navigation manual in Spanish, in which he locates the magnetic pole in Greenland and develops the first theories on global-scale magnetic variation. The work was translated into English and reprinted 17 times before 1630, becoming the main source on magnetism for English navigators who influenced Gilbert.
