1951 AD · Transmission: Global
MedicineInventionBritish

Charles Suckling synthesized halothane in 1951 as part of the search for inhalational anesthetics safer than ether and chloroform. The compound became a major turning point by offering a non-flammable agent that was easy to administer. Although later displaced by other halogenated agents, it marked the transition to modern inhalational anesthesia.
