Laryngeal mask — Archie Brain

The laryngeal mask, devised by Archie Brain in 1981, offered a supraglottic alternative intermediate between the face mask and endotracheal intubation. Its ease of insertion and usefulness in difficult scenarios transformed airway management. It is one of the most influential instruments of late-20th-century anesthesia.
