ComputingEventNorth American

In 1942, the US Navy partners with the National Cash Register Company to design and manufacture a series of code-breaking machines at the US Naval Computing Machine Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio. The American 'Bombes' built there incorporate advanced electronics relative to their British predecessors and contribute significantly to the naval war effort against Germany and Japan. It is an example of large-scale institutional adoption (whitepaper mechanism 3) rather than individual invention.
