Iatrikai Synagogai (Medical Collections) — Oribasius of Pergamon

~360 AD · Transmission: Global
MedicineTreatiseByzantine

Personal physician and confidant of Emperor Julian the Apostate, Oribasius compiled at his request a monumental 70-volume encyclopedia of Galenic and Hippocratic medical knowledge. Thanks to his summaries, much classical Greek medicine survived the fall of the Western Roman Empire; only 25 of the original 70 books survive, but their value for medical historiography is immense.
