Clavicembalo — Hermann Poll

First documented reference to the clavicembalo (clavicembalum), mentioned in Padua in 1397 in relation to jurist Hermann Poll. The instrument produces sound via a plectrum plucking the strings when keys are pressed. It is the direct mechanical predecessor of Cristofori's pianoforte, which replaced the plucking plectrum with hammers.
