Mathematical synthesis of the motion of planets, Sun, and Moon by means of epicycles and deferents. It includes the most complete star catalog of antiquity (1,022 stars), tables of trigonometric chords, and the equant model. It was the reference work in astronomy for 1,400 years, translated into Arabic c. 827 and into Latin in the 12th century.
