Tungstic acid — Scheele

Carl Wilhelm Scheele identifies tungstic acid (H2WO4) from the mineral known as tungsten or scheelite, demonstrating it contains a new, as-yet unisolated metallic element. His result was the direct starting point the Elhuyar brothers used two years later to obtain the pure metal by reduction with charcoal in Bergara.
