Omar Yaghi coins the term metal-organic framework (MOF) and develops reticular chemistry, systematizing the design of porous metal-organic networks with predictable geometry and functionality. His work turned MOFs into a rational-design platform for CO2 capture, hydrogen storage, and drug delivery.
